Administrative HistoryFirst proposed at a meeting held in Burlington House, March 1979, which called for the establishment by the Society of a committee for geological conservation. The Society had previously been involved in action concerning access to field sites (presenting evidence to the Public Enquiry regarding the footpath closure in Dorset) and requests by local councils to restrict collecting activities. First met in June 1980, the remit of the Conservation Committee was initially an advisory one on conservation issues but also to act as a powerful national lobby.
