Administrative HistoryOne of the few fossils remaining in our collections, this specimen of Chaetetes radiatus was found in the Mountain Limestone of Castle Espie Quarry, County Down, Northern Ireland, and donated to the Society’s Museum by Captain Theobald Jones, R N (1790-1868). As well as being a naval officer, Jones was elected a Member of Parliament for County Londonderry, was an expert in lichenology and collected fossil fishes. This fossil demosponge was not amongst the list of items officially retained by the Society in 1911. It was identified by Hugh Torrens in June 2009.
