DescriptionThree colour photographic portraits of Harrison H SCHMITT, two in astronaut gear (duplicates) and one in civilian wear, two of which are autographed, [1973]. Also, black and white copy photograph of Apollo [17] view of the earth, 11 Dec 1972, and typescript press release about Schmitt opening the new Lecture Theatre, dated 19 December 1973..
ProvenanceThe Earth photograph was officially presented to the Society by Schmitt before he gave the William Smith lecture of 19 December 1973, and presumably the portraits also date from that time. The press release, and two of the portraits were found in a file of Wallace Pitcher's which was amongst material he collated as part of the initial research into a bicentenary history of the Society (see GSL/BCN/4/3) but they have been placed here for ease of retrieval.
