DescriptionDigital scan of a geological map of Norfolk & Suffolk, based in part on William Smith's 'Delineation of the strata of England & Wales...' (1815), probably by Richard Cowling Taylor, [1815-1819]. Administrative HistoryThe date of the map has been suggested as being between 1815-1819, as the colouring is based on William Smith's 1815 map (but with some additions), not Smith's later county map of 1819.

There is what appears to be a signature on the bottom right hand corner but has been trimmed. The map has been attributed to Richard Cowling Taylor by Dr Peter Riches for a number of reasons: Taylor was geologically active in the county; the crosses indicate the locations of monastries (Taylor wrote a work on the subject); Taylor was a supporter of Smith.
ProvenanceThe map was purchased by Dr Peter Riches in 2018. It was lent for scanning purposes and returned in March 2019.
