DescriptionThree letters on the subject of Fermor's receipt of the P N Bose Memorial Medal from the Royal Asiatic Society of Bengal, 1944, and two on becoming a 'Correspondant Etranger' of the Geological Society of France, 1948.

• Murchison Medal of the Geological Society, 1900
• Silver Medal of the Mining and Geological Institute of India, 1917
• Bigsby Medal of the Geological Society, 1921[gold]
• Knights Bachelor, [1935]
Administrative HistoryThe medals were part of the Fermor Gem/Mineral collection held by the School of Earth Sciences, University of Bristol which was purchased from the widow of Lewis Fermor in 1956. The collection has recently come to light again in 2022, the project led by Steve Sparks who is Emeritus Professor of Earth Sciences and ex President of the Society. The medals do not fit in with the geological nature of the collection and as the Society already holds Fermor's remaining archive, they were transferred.
ProvenanceThe letters are from the original Fermor donation. The four medals were transferred from the School of Earth Sciences, University of Bristol, June 2022.
