| Administrative History | The well was for the New River Company, one of the private, statutory companies which supplied water to the inhabitants of London. The signature of W C Mylne will be that of Mylne's father who was surveyor to the New River Company and supervised the sinking of the well.
The intention was to see if it was advantageous to sink an artesian well into the Chalk below London. It proved to be a success. |
