DescriptionManuscript copy of a despatch from Acting-Governor Arthur Bailey to Governor Jeremiah Thomas Fitzgerald Callaghan, giving an account of a landslide, which was caused by the overflow of a peat bog, affecting Port Stanley, Falkland Islands on 29 November 1878.
Administrative HistoryArthur Bailey was appointed surveyor general of the Falkland Islands in 1848, a post which he held until 1873. He was then appointed coroner, registrar general and receiver of wrecks in 1875 and police magistrate in 1878. During Governor Jeremiah Thomas Fitzgerald Callaghan's leave in 1878-1879, Bailey served as acting governor.
