Administrative History | Students' Instructional Tour - The ninth tour took place between the 6th and 26th July [1954]. The party numbered 24 students and was again under the direction of Dr W W Black, of Nottingham University, with Dr T Barnard, of University College London, as Assistant Director. The itinerary included the Isle of Wight (Cretaceous and Tertiary succession), the Dorset coast (Jurassic), the Forest of Dan (Old Red Sandstone and Carboniferous), South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire (Permian and Trias), Shropshire (Ordovician and Silurian), the Goyt trough, the Ingleton, Malham, Austwick and Skipton areas (Lower Palaeozoic and Carboniferous), South Yorkshire and Nottinghamshire (Permian and Trias) and the Northamptonshrie Ironstone Field.
Local directors were Professor J H Taylor, Dr J D Lawson and efficient organisation and leadership of the tour by the Director and Assistant Director, and the able guidance of the local directors in their several areas." Extract of the report of the AGM for 1955. |
