| Administrative History | The Audit Panel was established towards the end of the year 2000 to provide reassurance to Council of the adequacy of the Society's financial procedures, and to highlight the requirements of the Charities Act. Initially the Panel met at least annually, was chaired by the Treasurer, and reported to Council through the Management and Finance Committee, but in December 2003 the group was re-constituted and since then has aimed for a minimum of two meetings a year, the Treasurer attends but does not chair meetings, and the Panel reports directly to Council. Representatives from the Society's external auditor are frequently present. The principal focus of the Panel's activity is to review internal financial and accounting policy and procedures, as well as surveying the audited accounts. |
