Administrative History | This committee's original purpose was to inform and advise Council on all aspects of geological education, from primary to postgraduate. This initially included examining the role of Geology in broader sixth form education; initating research and projects in Geology teaching; arranging liaison between schools, universities and museums; broadening the field of Geology job opportunities; and discussing the place of geomorphology (Geography or Geology?). It was known as the Geological Education Sub-Committee until mid-1972.
With the formation of the Joint Education Committee (with the Institution of Geologists), the original Education Committee was essentially surplus to requirements and was disbanded. The recent incarnation of the Education Committee was established in 1999. |
