Administrative History | The Earth Science Education Forum was formed by the Society in June 1989, with the broad objective of bringing together all the organisations which are involved, directly or indirectly, in some aspect of Earth Science education, with a view to seeing how they could contribute to it more directly. The initial reason for the establishment of the Forum was the introduction of an Earth Science component into the study of science in schools within the new National Curriculum.
The Forum was to provide a mechanism for communication and coordination amongst the various organisations involved in Earth Science, to encourage initiatives from the Earth Sciences Teachers' Association (ESTA), and to broaden and enhance them. The Forum did not have regular meetings or full time officers, but assembled when required. It became a standing committee of the Society in 1992. |
