| Administrative History | In 2011, the then President Bryan Lovell initiated contact with the main British protagonists of Plate Tectonics with a view to depositing their collections with the Society, as well as sourcing funding from his contacts in the oil industry. It was not until August 2013 that the Society received the first accession from Dan McKenzie of his scientific archive. Ted Irving's collection following in January 2014.
The Plate Tectonics Archive Working Group (PTAWG) was set up in 2014 to promote the collection, principally concentrating on the work of McKenzie. The result was a website and conference in 2017 marking the 50th anniversary of the publication of McKenzie's seminal paper in 1967. |
