Administrative History | The International Year of Planet Earth (IYPE) was established in 2000 by the International Union of Geological Sciences (IUGS) and the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). The initiative had 12 Founding Partners, (including the Society), and 26 Associated Partners.
The International Year of Planet Earth was a programme designed to foster outreach and research activities with the single purpose of raising worldwide public and political awareness of the vast potential of Earth sciences for improving the quality of life and safeguarding the planet. It ran for three successive years 2007, 2008 and 2009.
The organisation became Earth Science Matters Foundation in 2010. |
