DescriptionThree files relating to the bequest by Lt Col Basil Elmsley Coke:

1) Memoranda and notes from a meeting held 30 June 1965, regarding a proposed bequest to the Society by Lt Col Basil Elmsley Coke for the establishment of two medals in memory of his relatives who had died during the Second World War.

2-3) Two files containing correspondence, financial statements and a copy of the will relating to the administration of the Coke Will Trust, 1965-1984

4) Instructions and opinion of Counsel regarding the partitioning of the trust, 1972-1974, with letter of transmittal from solicitors, December 1982.
Administrative HistoryThe bequest would establish the Coke Medals, named after: Major John Sacheverell A'Deane Coke (1911-1944) of the King's Own Scottish Borders who was captured following the airborne assault upon Arnhem in September and then killed in November while escaping, and Major Edward D'Ewes Fitzgerald Coke (1915-1944) of the Sherwood Foresters who was killed in an ambush at Nijmegen while advancing to the relieve of the forces in Arnhem.

Lt Col Coke initially left his money in trust for his daughter during her lifetime and after her death in 1982, the funds were to revert to the Society.
ProvenanceInstructions and opinion of Counsel were sent to the Society in December 1982. The files relating to the administration of the fund were found in 2022.
