Administrative History | According to the first printed catalogue of the Library, produced in 1846, the volumes were prepared by William Lonsdale during his time working for the Society. In 1829, Lonsdale was appointed Museum Curator and Librarian (along with other duties) but was relieved of his Curatorial duties in 1836 when his health broke down from overwork. In 1838 he continued as Library and Assistant Secretary, but finally resigned in 1842 when his health failed to recover.
Although the volumes were intended to be added to by his successors, there are limited entries after 1836 - presumably the printed catalogue of 1846 putting paid to any need to continue. |
