DescriptionDiazo microfilm copy of the Geological Society Museum catalogue 'Typical Collection of Rocks', compiled by Leonard Horner, 1859. The register contains numerous explanatory notes, Museum locations with names of donors and localities (where known), with the specimens being renumbered nos.1-1214. Indexed at front.

Note: the first few images on the microfilms are very dark.
Administrative HistoryAccording to an explanation by Leonard Horner at the front of the volume, the Society held a large number of specimens but they were deficient in a number of areas. Receiving a small grant from Council, the Museum Committee acquired around 200 specimens from Dr Krantz of Bonn which filled in the gaps. This part of the collection was to comprise of only igneous and non fossiliferous stratified rocks, the others could be examined alongside the fossil collections.
