Description | 20 reels of 16mm Diazo microfilm, of selected Geological Society Museum Registers, concerning the accessioning, cataloguing and loan of specimens, 1811-1914.
Note: another register entitled 'Geological Department registered duplicates', which probably concerns the NHM's collection, was also donated. It is catalogued only because it is unclear if it contains any of the Society's specimens. |
Administrative History | When the Museum collection was broken up in 1911, the majority of the Museum registers were donated to the Natural History Museum. Some volumes were given later, notably around 1983 when the Archives of the Society were being collated and arranged by John Thackray (who was also archivist of the NHM).
On the reverse of the boxes of the Diazo microfilm are stamps which indicate that films were purchased by the Palaeontology Library on 12 July 1985, however the physical volumes indicate that the microfilming was originally undertaken in 1940. The 35mm films were originally photographed July 1940. |
