1) Geol Soc Coll 3879 - Cast of the jaw [from Stonesfield, Oxfordshire], donated by William Buckland, 25 May 1831. 2) Geol Soc Coll 3886 - Rib from Stonesfield, Oxfordshire, donated by Henry Warburton, 21 Jun 1817. [GSL Museum acc ref: 12311] 3) GSd 3137 - Vertebra from Garden Cliff, Westbury, Gloucestershire, donated by ?Robert Cole. [1820s-1830s]. Note: originally labelled as a plesiosaur vertebra but reassigned in 1994. 4) GSa 2894 - Metatarsal from Tilgate Forest, Sussex, donated by Gideon Mantell, [?13 Jun 1822]. Note: originally listed as crocodile but reassigned in 1973. |
Administrative History | The British material from the Society's old Museum is now held by the British Geological Survey. These specimens were borrowed back for a 2024 exhibition celebrating 200 years since William Buckland's paper on the dinosaur Megalosaurus was read before the Society.
