DescriptionLead trial copy of the Prestwich Medal, designed by Frank Bowcher, [1902].
Administrative HistoryThe medal is marked on the portrait side 'F B after H Pinker' which may indicate that it is based on the bust of Prestwich by Henry Richard Hope-Pinker, c.1901. A committee was set up to commission the medal in April-July 1902. The Society also lent Bowcher a portrait for reference.

The medal was first awarded to John Lubbock, Baron Avebury in 1903.
