Description | Silver rose bowl, with handles, engraved 'In commemoration of the 150th anniversary of the foundation of the Geological Society of London. Presented by W P D Stebbing, JP, a Senior Fellow of the Society 13 November 1957. Hallmarks indicate that the bowl was made by James Dixon and Sons of Sheffield and stamped in ?1908.

Administrative History | At the Council Meeting of 8 January 1958, W P D Stebbing offered a 'piece of plate' to commemorate the 150th Anniversary of the Society's foundation. He had previously donated £50 towards the cost of the celebration (see Council Meeting, 30 Oct 1957).
At the Council Meeting of 25 June 1958, the bowl was presented. Stebbing later bequeated the sum of £100 to the Society (see Council Meeting 11 October 1961).
According to staff, the bowl used to be brought out on Presidents' Day.
