Administrative HistoryThe original marble bust was made in 1848 for William Smith's memorial in St Peter’s Church, Northampton, a copy was made in 1850 by Noble to commemorate the opening of the Museum of Practical Geology.
ProvenanceReceived from Samuel Sharp, FGS, of Darlington Hall, Northampton, who also sent a photograph of the interior of St Peter's Church, November 1871. See CM, 22 November 1871.
