Plaster portrait bust of William Smith, [1848-1871], after marble original by Matthew Noble, 1850, based on the 1837 portrait of Smith by Hugues Fourau. 65 cm high.

Administrative History
The original marble bust was made in 1848 for William Smith's memorial in St Peter’s Church, Northampton, a copy was made in 1850 by Noble to commemorate the opening of the Museum of Practical Geology.
Provenance
Received from Samuel Sharp, FGS, of Darlington Hall, Northampton, who also sent a photograph of the interior of St Peter's Church, November 1871. See CM, 22 November 1871.
