Administrative History | First published in 1845, the 'Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society', was designed to replace the Society's 'Proceedings of the Geological Society' but be more comprehensive and varied. As the title indicated, the new journal was issued four times a year and as most of the papers read at the Society could be accommodated within its pages, it led to the demise of what was still technically the Society's main journal, the 'Transactions of the Geological Society', which had suffered from its somewhat erratic publication dates.
The publication's title was shorted to 'Journal of the Geological Society' in 1971. |
