Description | Letter to Edward CHARLESWORTH from an unknown author from Saffron Walden, Essex, reminiscing about his friend William Richardson's fossil hunting efforts in Herne Bay, 8 July 1887. Includes a pencil drawing of the tooth and palate of Platychoerops richardsoni, by Kate Sowerby, with later pencil note descriptions by Charlesworth, [nd]. |
Administrative History | Platychoerops richardsoni, found by William Richardson in the London Clay at Herne Bay, was first briefly described by Edward Charlesworth at the British Association meeting of 1854. According to Charlesworth's notes, the specimen was given to the Yorkshire Philosophical Society Museum but its identification appears to have become confused as it was redescribed by Richard Owen in 1865 under the name Miolophus planiceps, Owen. |
