Description | Five small boxes of glass microscope slides with thin rock sections compiled by Gerald ANDREW, [?1920-1930s]. Also a ms notebook containing brief lists of the numbered slides relating to the geology of Ireland. As well as Ireland, the boxes include slides from South America, Africa, North America and Europe. Includes a typescript letter from Andrew to his son John sending him the slides, with a detailed list of contents, 17 January 1974. |
Administrative History | The Irish material is presumably associated with the notes in LDGSL/1063/4, however the other slides may relate to Andrew's teaching duties at the University of Manchester or in Cairo, Egypt.
The slides may have been sent to his son John Roger Andrew in connection with the latter's studies in geology at the Open University (graduated in 1977). |
