Administrative History | Marjorie Wight, born in 1889, was the daughter of a Staffordshire solicitor. Little is known about her life, but she worked for a time at the photographers Vivians in Hereford. Most of her photography work concerned capturing the rural countryside of Herefordshire and Shropshire, but she also travelled farther afield her in car to other places such as Yorkshire and Wales. Later in her career she was employed as a photographer for the Shell Guides of Great Britain series of guidebooks.
The depositor knew Wight between 1950-1955. As a school boy he was interested in photography and she took an interest in his efforts. When he started doing A level Geology she presented him with the negatives when she was sorting her house out. The depositor moved from Hereford in 1955 to work in Birmingham and lost touch with Miss Wight. "I owe her a great deal in stimulating my interest in botany and geology". |
