Description | Working file entitled 'Von Zeipel's Theorem homogenous sphere & compressible fluid', relating to the paper: McKenzie, D, "The influence of the boundary conditions and rotation on convection in the Earth's mantle", 'Geophysical Journal of the Royal Astronomical Society', vol (1968), pp457-500. The contents of the file includes: manuscript notes & equations; plots (both computer & ms); typescript early draft entitled 'Forced and Free Convection in the Earth's Mantle', with correspondence with E C Rubidge, General Secretary of the Royal Astronomical Society and Nigel Weiss, Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, University of Cambridge, England, relating to the refereeing process, May-October 1967; postgraduate essay 'The equations for the motion of compressible fluids', [c.1964]. |
Administrative History | The postgraduate essay is not dated. However it references no bibliographic sources after 1961, and in the acknowledgements McKenzie thanks Shell for his postgraduate scholarship (awarded in October 1963) but does not mention his later King's Fellowship (awarded in March 1965). It has therefore been dated to c.1964.
The published paper derived in part from McKenzie's PhD [information from McKenzie, June 2015]. |
