Family background, gaining interest in geology, studying Geology at Kingston Technical College [now Kingston University], and attending and participating in Geological Society meetings (00:28-13:41); more on geology at Kingston and the interviewee's fellow students there, being a research student at Imperial College London (c1961-1963), and working with Doug Shearman, Janet Watson and John Sutton (13:46-24:52); postdoc study on Libyan Miocene, including field work in Libya (1963-1966) (24:53-33:08); visits to the occupied Sinai Peninsula and Jordan (33:08-38:07); working as a lecturer in sedimentology at Imperial, then having two years' leave (1969-1971) to work as a sedimentologist for Oasis Oil Company in Libya (38:08-43:22); leaving Imperial and working for Conoco in the North Sea (1971-1975) (43:23-49:28); return to Imperial as Reader in petroleum geology, as well as consulting for oil companies, and becoming Head of Department at Imperial and having to downsize due to the Earth Science Review (49:29-01:02:35); trip to the Arctic/Greenland for Conoco (1974) (01:02:36-01:07:32); reflections on changes in the Geological Society, and the expertise of some people working as 'geologists' (01:07:33-01:14:52). |
