DescriptionTypescript document detailing the history of the Society's 'Quarterly Journal of the Geological Society' and 'Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology' and the setting up of the in-house Publishing arm, entitled "From red to black lines and how it was achieved: a personal recollection of the finances and formats of the QJGS-JGS and QJEG, 1950-88 and the formation of the GSL Publishing House" by Bernard Elgey Leake, 4 July 2017. At the end of the document is an obituary/biography of Douglas Grant (1918-2014)
Administrative HistoryProfessor Leake was invited to compile his reminiscences, backed up with meeting records from the Council and Publication Committee papers, in February 2017 after pointing out many errors in the article: Winter, M G & E N Bromhead, "QJEGH: there and back in 50 volumes", 'Quarterly Journal of Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology', Vol 49 (Nov 2016), pp273-278.

Leake was Chairman of the GSL Publication Committee 1976-1979 and also the last single editor of JGS, 1972-1974. He was concerned that the published article failed to address fundamental financial issues and their influence on the history of GSL publishing.
