| Administrative History | The Thames Archway, a tunnel intended to connect Rotherhithe and Limehouse, was proposed by Robert Vazie in 1802 with work starting in 1805 overseen by the Thames Archway Company. Work was abandoned in 1808 (Vazie was fired in 1807 and replaced by Richard Trevithick) due to lack of funds and the unstable geological strata of the tunnelling site. |
