Administrative HistoryThe drawing's caption references Dr [Samuel] Hibbert, who discovered various fossiliferous material in the limestone quarry of Burdie House, outside of Edinburgh. Concerned that the fossils would be pillaged by various collectors, he convinced the Royal Society of Edinburgh to collect them systematically.
