Description | Watercolour study of an incomplete specimen of the fossil fish Scylliodus antiquus Agassiz, by George Scharf, 1837. Found in the Chalk from Kent, in the collection of Lord Cole [William Willoughby Cole, later 3rd Earl of Enniskillen].
On the reverse of the drawing is a modern caption stating 'Presented by the Earl of Enniskillen'.
Note: the specimen is clearly the same as that shown in LDGSL/614/3/107, however that drawing states that the fish was in the collection of Sir Philip de Malpas Grey Egerton. |
Administrative History | Collected/drawn as part of the research for Louis Agassiz's 'Recherches sur les Poissons Fossiles' (1833-1843/1844). Published. |
