DescriptionRough pencil sketch of a bone from an unidentified fossil fish, by unknown artist, [1832-1843]. Caption in German by Joseph Dinkel.

The caption at the top states "auslassen" [omit], then beneath "Anmerkung das Verfassers Hier aus diesem Stück konnte ich nichts herausbringen, [illegible] Jos. Dinkel" = Author's note I couldn't get anything out of this piece, [illegible] Jos. Dinkel".

Administrative HistoryCollected/drawn as part of the research for Louis Agassiz's 'Recherches sur les Poissons Fossiles' (1833-1843/1844).

The caption may indicate Dinkel's role in translating other artists' drawings to a lithographic plate for publication. The rough nature of the drawing was likely too prohibitive to be of any use.
