Description | Ink sketches of 'Doricthyolites [sic] from the Coal Measures', Alnwick Castle, Northumberland, in the collection of Duchess of Northumberland [Charlotte Florentia Percy], by Henry Thomas de la Beche, [1834-1838]. The pencil caption identifies the fin spine is being from the fossil fish Gyracanthus formosus Agassiz which are also found found in Burdie House, Scotland, however in the published work it has been renamed 'Gyracanthus alwicensis Agassiz'.
On the reverse of the sketches are detailed descriptions, in De la Beche's hand, of the specimens he has drawn, however the sheet is torn so the text is incomplete. |
Administrative History | Although in the unpublished series, the drawing was included in Louis Agassiz's 'Recherches sur les Poissons Fossiles' (1833-1843/1844). |
