DescriptionFour albumen, carte de visite format photographs of fossils from Queensland and New South Wales, Australia, taken by Alexander Smithers, Newcastle, Australia, for William Keene, 1864. On the front of each photograph is a manuscript caption by Keene:

1) 'Fossil block with Belemnite from the [River] Belliands, Queensland 1864'.
2) 'Fern and large leaf from the head of the Lachlan [River], NSW 1864'
3) 'Block of beautiful fossil flora from siliceous rocks at the head of the Lachlan [Rover], NSW 1864'
4) 'Fossil berries or fruit & fossil wood from near the Peak Downs Queensland 1864'

Keene has annotated the back of each with the same text, "To the Geological Society of London from Mr Keene Government Examiner of Coal Fields Newcastle N S Wales 20th June 1864".
