Administrative HistoryThe map was likely based on the George Bellas Greenough's 'Geological Map of England & Wales' (1820) but was not published. Instead a revised version, under the name of Roderick Murchison was issued in 1843.

The Society was first approached by SDUK in 1829 requesting permission to utilise Greenough's 1820 map, see the Council Minutes (GSL/CM/1).
ProvenanceProbably part of the Greenough bequest, 1856.
