Provenance | Presented to the Society by Leonard Horner in 1856. Flyleaf states 'This MS volume (part of a series) of Dr Hutton's, with some additions in his own hand, containing six chapters of illustrations of his Theory of the Earth, was given to Lord Webb Seymour by Mr Playfair (as Mr Playfair himself told me) and after his Lordship's death I received it from the Duke of Somerset, when he came to Edinburgh on the occasion of his brother's decease. I give it to the Geological Society to be preserved in the Library, as an interesting document in the History of Science. LH 30 November 1856.' |
