Appraisal | 18 volumes of tracts collated by Thomas Rupert Jones of his and others published papers, but including letters, annotations and cuttings. Comprising:
Vol 1 - 1854-1892. Articles on Newbury, Berkshire by various authors, including cuttings and mss letter. Vol 2 - 1855-1895. Containing articles, mostly by Jones, on 'Palaeozoic Entomostraca'. Includes insert of pencil illustration of Carbonia from the Gurdy Cutting. Vol 3 - 1856-1891. Containing 'Reviews, miscellaneous' subjects by Jones and others including cuttings and some mss notes. Vol 4 - 1859-1871. Containing articles by Jones and others on 'Nomenclature of the Foraminifera' published in the Annals and Magazine of Natural History. Vol 5 - 1859-1895. Containing articles mostly by Jones on 'Ostracoda, etc', including pencil illustration with mss note on fossil entomostraca dated 1860. Vol 6 - 1860-1881. Containing 'Reviews, miscellaneous papers' mostly by Jones including cuttings, mss notes. Vol 7 - 1862-1887. Containing 'Reviews, miscellaneous papers' mostly by Jones including cuttings, mss notes and letters from others. Vol 8 - 1864-1885. Containing 'Reviews, miscellaneous papers' mostly by Jones including cuttings, mss notes, mss sections and letters from others. Vol 10 - 1866-1871. Containing 'Reviews' by Jones, including cuttings. Vol 11 - 1865-1905. Containing articles mostly by Jones on 'Phyllopoda', with mss notes. Vol 12 - 1865-1905. Containing articles mostly by Jones on 'Carboniferous Ostracoda'. Vol 13 - 1866-1902. Containing articles mostly by Jones on 'Foraminifera', with mss notes. Vol 14 - 1877. Containing 'Lecture on the Antiquity of Man illustrated by the contents of caves and relics of the cave-folk', published by John Van Voorst (1877), which was given by Jones to the Croydon Microscopical Club on 26 April 1876. Includes numerous letters from 1877 which Jones received from others such as William Pengelly, R H Tiddeman, James Croll, John Evans, Searles Valentine Wood jnr, Alfred Tylor and Osmond Fisher. Also further cuttings on the subject and a batch of later letters from 1884 notably from Joseph Stevens and Benjamin Harrison on flint tools, the latter likely to relate to 'eoliths'. Vol 16 - 1883-1898. Miscellaneous review articles by Jones including 'Obit of G W Stow and the mineral wealth of S Africa'. Cuttings and some mss notes. Vol 17 - 1887-1894.
