DescriptionJoseph PRESTWICH field notebook with geological notes and ink/coloured sections for the Southeast England, but usually around the Greater London area in the earlier years, ?1832-1841. Areas include: Loam Pit Hill, Lewisham; Blackheath; Erith; Bexleyheath; Chislehurst; Croydon; Upnor; Reading; Wimbledon; Wandsworth; Ewell; Reculver; Grays; Egham; Worpledon; Guilford; Northaw; Chalfont; Maidenhead.
Administrative HistoryMarked on the front of the volume, although no longer legible, is 'Copied London ?' and it may be that Prestwich collated his earlier research into this volume, or copied some secondary sources for reference. Certainly the mss map at the front is based on William Buckland's paper, "Description of a series of Specimens from the Plastic Clay near Reading, Berks: with Observations on the Formation to which those Beds belong", TGS, vol 4 (1817), which covered the geology of Loam Pit Hill, Lewisham and Blackheath.
