Administrative HistoryThe contents of the letter refer to the famous geological trip to the continent made by Murchison, Charlotte Murchison and Charles Lyell in 1828. The Murchisons and Lyell went their separate ways, with Lyell continuing to follow the planned itinerary to southern Italy during which he visited the "finest collection of fossil shells" in the company of Guidotti, the Professor of Chemistry at Parma.
