DescriptionMurchison correspondence: letter from Wilhelm von HAIDINGER, Vienna, 31 Aug 1854. Re: Praises Murchison's 'Siluria' which could be disheartening when compared with his own poor attempts without the kindness of scientific friends; survey of Lower and Upper Austria and Salzburg completed and the map is soon to be sent out, many new localities of fossils from the alpine limestones have been discovered with von Hauer working on cephalopoda, Suess on brachiopoda, Reuss on polyparia and Hornes on Tertiary fossils; von Hauer working on the memoir to the map of Upper and Lower Austria; lists other geologists' current works and would like to form a new centre for scientific life.
