DescriptionMurchison correspondence: letter from Wilhelm von HAIDINGER, Vienna, 22 Dec 1856. Re: Has succeeded in sending Murchison copies of the mining maps and the diagrams which were exhibited at the Paris exhibition, but couldn't acquire any tellurium ore; was unable to attend the recent meeting of German naturalists attended by Hooker, Daubeny and Galton but was able to meet Sir Charles and Lady Lyell; has received communications from many regarding his recent election as Foreign FRS; winter session of the geological and new geographical institutes have commenced; Baron Fridau, who Murchison provided letters of introduction three years previously, had to cut short his trip to India but has now returned; asks if Murchison could provide other letters of introduction for a number of scientists (listed) who are to accompany the Imperial Frigate Novara on its voyage round the globe.
