DescriptionMurchison correspondence: letter from Leonard HORNER, Manchester, 30 Jan 1845. Re: Thanks Murchison for his long letter about the Ural Chain; feared that Ansted might have resigned after his introductory notice was cancelled, thinks the current President [Warburton] is doing the cause and himself a great deal of harm, wishes the notice had been modified rather than withdrawn; opinion on Falconer and Hamilton as secretaries of the Society; one of his first duties [as President] will be to ascertain the duties of the editor; attended meeting of the Manchester Geological Society where he had the 'ill luck' to come in for a paper on coal measures by Elias Hall, they received a fine slab of fossil footprints from Weston near Runcorn which he is expecting a cast to be made which will be presented to the Society's Museum; is intending to ask Murchison to give a memoriam to Count Munster.
