| Description | Murchison correspondence: letter from Alexander Keith JOHNSTON, Edinburgh, 29 Oct 1860. [Concerning the production of Murchison's and Archibald Geikie's 'First sketch of a new geological map of Scotland' (1861)], is sending Murchison two copies of the new base map for his comments, Geikie is in Dunfermline; does not recall anything else published about the geology of Scotland save the Ami Boué map and any publications by the Highland Society will be in their Transactions or Jameson's journal, but thinks Murchison's labours in 1827 are the first systematic attempt. |
