| Description | Murchison correspondence: letter from Charles LYELL, 27 Jun 1835. Re: Has shown Adam Sedgwick the preface for his book, also a critical note on it in the 'L R' [?Quarterly Review] which Sedgwick agreed he would not have liked; reminds Murchison of his opinion that criticisms which appear in the text of a paper rather than in the notes are worth more; briefly thought that Murchison may have been the author of the note; surprised that Murchison has a misconception of the importance of his role in Lyell's geological career, detailing the circumstances which led Lyell to produce his 'Principles of Geology'. |
