Description | Murchison correspondence: letter from Charles LYELL, 1826. Re: expresses his agreement that Gideon Mantell is the correct person to help Murchison draw the demarcations between Purbeck, Tilgate beds and Weald clay and recommends that Murchison visits Sedgwick quarries, Stammerham and Slinfold; queries why Murchison follows modern geological thinkers such as [William Henry] Fitton and Mantell, but then still quotes authorities which are out of date [William Smith and George Bellas Greenough]; bones of the fossil animal which Murchison has discovered. |
