DescriptionMurchison correspondence: letter from Hugh MILLER, Portobello, 2 Jan 1856. Re: Just recovering from a severe inflammation of the lungs which has slowed down the progress on the illustrations of his book on the Old Red Sandstone; sees from newspaper reports that Murchison is expanding his 'Silurian kingdom' to Lesmahagow and briefly describes the geology of the area and a Pterygotus fossil; criticises Joseph Dinkel's 'defective' illustration of Pterichthys which appeared in Murchison's 'Siluria'.
