DescriptionMurchison correspondence: letter from Henry Eustatius STRICKLAND, Cracombe House, Evesham, 17 Nov 1835. Re: The anxiety for the safety of his second son stationed in a 'pestilential climate' meant he was reluctant for his eldest son (Hugh Edwin Strickland) to travel to Asia Minor; his fears have been realised as he has just heard that his second son has died in Jamaica from yellow fever aged just 20; he is therefore anxious that Hugh Edwin Strickland be recalled home despite the disappointment it may cause him; Hugh was supposed to have sent a package from Trieste along with one from Mr Hamilton to his father, asks if Murchison can arrange for it to be forwarded it on.
Administrative HistoryHugh Edwin Strickland accompanied William John Hamilton on a tour through southern Europe to Asia Minor between 1835-1836.
