Re: Has sent the specimens of Old Red Sandstone from Herefordshire which Murchison wanted to inspect, the bones embedded in look like the dorsal spines of fish and describes their unusual appearance when wet, with description of the location near Knighstford Bridge where they were found; also sends a specimen of probable New Red conglomerate from Berrow Hill; specimen of a perfect trilobite in the possession of Mr Evans a chemist at Worcester; sends a few land shells for Charlotte Murchison's collection but due to its great extent thinks very few will be new to her; sends a copy of the magazine the 'Analyst' lately published in Worcester containing his account of the geology of the area; is currently preparing for the election at Merton College Oxford and encloses a list [not included] of their Fellows to whom he hopes Murchison might mention his name; invites the Murchisons to call and be shown the neighbourhood; Mrs Murchison's friend Mrs Davies is quite well but Col D[avies lost the last election and intends to petition agains Mr Bailey; sends packets to be forwarded to Charles Lyell and William Lonsdale. |
