Re: congratulates Murchison on his recent palaeontological discoveries which confirm similar fossils in contemporaneous deposits; eager to see Murchison's fossils from Brora; discoveries in Yorkshire through the Kelloway Rock; praises William Smith as being the expert on the geology of Yorkshire, referencing Smith's County Map and a hoped for accompanying monograph; states that William Smith has done more for the science of geology than any other individual despite his advanced age in poverty and dependence; suggests forming a subscription fund for Smith so he will not die in a poor house and requests Murchison forward the proposal to William Buckland and other friends at the Geological Society.
