1833 Spends a week in Cambridge. Describes third British Association (now British Science Association) meeting (p2-4). 29th June goes to [William Henry] Smyth's house at Bedford, describes evening with [John] Herschel and the Bucklands (p4-5). Describes stay at Castle Ashby 30th June-3rd July, home of Spencer Compton, with the Bucklands (p5-6). Describes week at Great Malvern, 6th-14th July (p6-7), and travels around Herefordshire (p7-9), including mention of the solar eclipse of 17th July (p8). Describes travels and sightseeing around Wales, 18th July-7th September (p9-23) (p13 blank), including Raglan, Usk, Abergavenny, Brecon, Llandovery, Trecastle, Llandeilo, Llanarthney, Llanwrtyd, Builth Wells, Rhayader, Aberystwyth, [Mallroyd], Dolgellau (ascends Cader Idris, p18-19), Tan-y-Bwlch, Snowdon, Menai Bridge, Capel Curig, and Welshpool (visits Powis Castle and the 1st Earl of Powis and family, p20-23). Passes back into England on 7th September, and visits several friends and places (p23-24), including Onslow, Clungunford, Titterstone Clee Hill, and Downton Castle. 1835 The following written back-to-front from p178: Leaves London on 1st July, and describes visits to, and sketching at, Taplow and Tortworth (p178-177). Passes into Wales on 8th July, and describes travel and sightseeing in south Wales (p176-169), including Crickhowell, Brecon, Llandovery, Llandeilo, Carmarthen, Stackpole (visiting St Govan's Chapel and the Pembrokeshire coast, p175-171), Pembroke Dock, Narberth, Newcastle Emlyn, Lampeter, Llandridod Wells, and Powis Castle. Returns to England at the beginning of August, visiting Oswestry and Woodside (Birkenhead), before travelling by steam boat to Kingstown (now called Dún Laoghaire) in Ireland (p169-168). Stays at Tinahinch (Co. Wicklow?), describing visits to Bray, Powerscourt Waterfall, and central Dublin (p168-167). Then on 18th August travels to what is now Northern Ireland, describing visits to Rostrevor, Armagh, [Lisson], [Rillemoor], Giant's Causeway (with Sedgwick and others), Ballycastle, Dunluce Castle, Cushendall, Glenarm, Belfast, and [Portheour]. Returns to Dublin on 8th September (p163), and travels overnight from 9th to 10th September from Kingstown to Woodside. Visits Oulton Park, Shrewsbury, and Onslow. Ends on 19th September (p162).
